Dwór Artusa i portret kupca // Artus Court and mysterious portrait

Museum History of Gdansk City bought lastly painting of Luis F.R. Sy „Gdańsk Merchant”.

 The name of the personage was revealed 16^th April 2013 during meeting in Artus Court.

 The history and identity of the picturesque man was investigated by Mrs. Krystyna Jackowska from Polish Academy of Science in Gdańsk.

 She confirmed that from the portrait  John Sprot Stoddart from Edinburgh is looking at us.

 John in age of nineteen moved to Gdańsk and became later the most prominent merchant and Gdańsk citizen.

 The painting could be bought thanks to local brewery Amber.

 During the meeting  beer “Johannes” was served.

 The meeting, despite very interesting news was the occasion of seeing again the objects in Artus Court.

 Many of them were done in XV/XVI century.

                 W dniu 16 kwietnia w Dworze Artusa odbyła się bardzo sympatyczna uroczystość F.R. Sy „Portret kupca”.

 Nazwisko kupca otoczone było tajemnicą i zostało ujawnione Gdańszczanom dopiero   na tym spotkaniu.

 Historię tajemniczego, eleganckiego pana z portretu zbadała pani Krystyna Jackowska z Gdańskiego PAN i przekazała nam na jego temat garść informacji.

 O nim i autorze tego portretu.

 Badania pani Jackowskiej potwierdziły, że osobą portretowaną był  urodzony w Edynburgu,

z wyboru Gdańszczanin John Sprot Stoddart.

 Obraz został zakupiony przy pomocy finansowej browaru Amber.

 Podczas spotkania serwowano znakomite piwo Johannes.

 Uroczystość była również okazją do kolejnego spotkania z Dworem Artusa, w którym znajduje się wiele ciekawych obiektów, m.in. z XV/XVI wieku. elegancki
